Abstract

  • In March 2020 inflation occurred in Central Java by 0.02 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.47. Of the 6 CPI cities in Central Java, five cities experienced inflation and one city experienced deflation, namely Tegal City by 0.02 percent with CPI of 104.55. The highest inflation occurred in Cilacap City by 0.06 percent with CPI of 103.03 followed by Purwokerto City by 0.05 percent with CPI of 103.88; Holy City of 0.04 percent with CPI of 103.81; The city of Semarang was 0.02 percent with the CPI of 104.88 and the lowest inflation in Surakarta was 0.01 percent with the CPI 103.76.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in most of the expenditure group index, namely: the personal care and other services group by 1.12 percent followed by the transportation group by 0.21 percent; health group of 0.12 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.05 percent; clothing and footwear group of 0.04 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.03 percent and the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel group by 0.02 percent. The groups that experienced deflation were the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.31 percent, and the information, communication and financial services group by 0.07 percent. While the recreation, sports and culture group, and the education group did not experience a change in index / relatively stable.
  • The main cause of inflation in Central Java in March 2020 was the increase in the price of jewelery gold, sugar, broiler eggs, maintenance / service and oranges. The main barrier to inflation in Central Java is the fall in prices for red chili, cayenne pepper, cooking oil, garlic and squid.
  • The March 2020 calendar year inflation rate is 0.55 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2020 against March 2019) is 3.25 percent.
